James Brown

Jim Brown will be the new Head of Specialty Commercial for SVB Private Banking & Wealth Management, overseeing Commercial Lending, Commercial Real Estate, Non-Profit Lending, and CRA & Community Investment. He currently serves as Executive Vice President and President of Commercial Banking for Boston Private.

An employee of Boston Private since 1999, Jim has led the organization’s Commercial Banking business across its three key markets—Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco—since the merger of affiliates into one bank. In his time at Boston Private, Commercial Loans and Deposits have increased from $200 million each to over $4 billion and $5 billion respectively.

Jim is Vice-Chair of the company's Executive Loan Committee and has served on various other committees including ALCO, Sales and Marketing, and the Executive Leadership Team. He has served on the board of directors for Boston Private’s bank, Boston Private Bank and Trust Company, and the RIA, Boston Private Wealth LLC.

Jim earned a BS from Nichols College and an MBA from Boston College. Among his charitable activities, Jim is a member of the Board of Trustees for Nichols College, serving on the Audit and Advancement Committees. He is also on the Board of Directors of A Better City in Boston, and he has served on fundraising committees for Judge Baker Children’s Center for almost two decades.
