Interview with Jasmin Jones, SCS Noonan Scholars Graduate
Tell us a little about yourself – your background and what makes you unique.
I am South Central Scholar from Los Angeles, CA and an alumna of Brown University. I am proud to be a part of a unique, prestigious group of hardworking scholars that have made a true mark of academic excellence in our community.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been managing my expectations of growth. It's very easy to push yourself and perhaps get lost in what your idea of success is and what you envision versus what is reality. But ultimately I have learned to really value how far I've come more often than how far I want to go.
Who has had a significant influence in your life and how has that impacted you?
Influencers in my life are my South Central Scholars mentors who have stood by my side throughout my education and career journey. Without them I would not be where I am today, and I am so fortunate to have had supportive figures that I look up to and have always pushed me in the right direction.
What’s the best advice you ever received? How has it helped you maintain balance?
The best advice I ever received was to be unapologetic. There was a time when I would overthink everything because I really wanted to do my best, and through this advice I gained perspective of ways in which I was holding myself back.
What are your dreams for the future and what’s in store for you for the next three to five years?
The next three to five years I hope to be in business school receiving an MBA and continue honing my skills as a passionate professional in the financial innovation space. But ultimately, what I do doesn't define me; rather, exercising my knowledge to uplift those around me who seek to create energies of triumph, hard work, confidence and compassion is something I work towards each and every day.
My favorite part of the day is waking up because I love getting ready to take on the newest adventure.
