John McGuinness

John J.  McGuinness III is a Managing Director and Relationship Manager for Boston Private. He brings more than 30 years of wealth management experience in both enterprise management and client facing positions. Mr. McGuinness is responsible for working with individuals, families and their family offices in delivering Boston Private’s advisory, planning, liquidity and credit services for clients’ personal and commercial requirements.

Prior to joining Boston Private, Mr. McGuinness was a Managing Director within Citi Private Bank’s Ultra High Net Worth business, working with the bank’s wealthiest clients and offices to manage the delivery of asset management, liquidity and credit, and capital market solutions. Earlier, he held both management and client facing roles as a Managing Director at Bank of America’s Private Bank in New York. He was involved in the creation of Bank of America’s Family Wealth Advisors segment, launched in 10 major markets in the U.S. and focused on families with investable assets of greater than $50MM. 

In prior positions, Mr. McGuinness served as Executive Vice President at PNC Advisors in Pittsburgh, where he headed both sales and marketing for the firm’s wealth management business. Additionally, Mr. McGuinness had several leadership positions at BNY Mellon, including Head of Sales and Training in its Private Client Services business as well as President of the Putnam Trust Company in Greenwich, CT.

Mr. McGuinness is a past board member of Kids in Crisis, a Greenwich-based agency that helps children and families cope with unsafe situations, as well as The Inner City Foundation of Fairfield County, which is supervised by the Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, CT. He is also a past board member of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce. Mr. McGuinness currently sits on the Advisory Board at The University of Alabama’s Student Health Center in Tuscaloosa, AL, which focuses on programs for students with food and addiction disorders.

Mr. McGuinness earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College. He resides in New York City.
